Life’s Reflections Deacon Abraham Buckley
Abraham Buckley Jr. was born on December 5, 1941, to the late Mr. Abraham Buckley Sr. and Mrs. Prenella Buckley in Forest, Mississippi. He was the youngest of six children—and the only son. Three of his siblings preceded him in death.
Abraham shared 48 wonderful years of marriage with his devoted wife, Gwendolyn Faye Buckley.
He graduated from Hawkins High School and worked for many years as an exceptional carpet layer, earning a reputation as one of the best in his field. Abraham accepted Christ at an early age at New Bethel Church under the leadership of Reverend Mark Thomas. He later served faithfully as a Deacon, Trustee, and Sunday School Superintendent under the late Reverend Nathaniel Robinson. Even as his health declined, he continued to care for the welfare of the church under the leadership of Pastor Vincent Hopkins. Abraham’s love for his church and his faith never wavered.
Abraham bravely served his country in the U.S. Army. Abraham was a faithful member of the SCTS|ETHHS|FHS Reunion Committee. He served as a past Master Mason and member of Lodge 142 until his health prevented him from continuing.
Abraham leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. He is survived by his devoted wife, Gwendolyn Faye Buckley of Forest, Mississippi; one daughter, Stephanie; two grandchildren of California; two sisters, Lilia Mae Everett of Pittsburg, California, and Martha Stingley of Forest, Mississippi; a special niece, Charlotte Stingley of Forest, Mississippi; and special cousins Phyllis (Willie) Harper, Lewis Lyles, Johnny (Kim) Harper, and Charles Lester (Maggie) Thomas.
Preceding him in death were his sisters, Penny Talbert, Dorothy Buckley, and Betty Brown.
Abraham also leaves to share his memories, a loving father-in-law, mother-in-law, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-laws, a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends who will forever remember his kindness and unwavering faith.
