Bonnie Lee Skipworth-Lyon

Bonnie Lee Skipworth Lyon, 87, passed from this earthly life on August 3, 2026, in Jackson, Mississippi. She was born to Charlie Mae and James Andrew Skipworth on June 8, 1939, and grew up in the Rosewood community of Kentucky. Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 47 years; her son, Dwayne Noel Lyon; her sisters Eva Sue Skipworth and Brenda Gaye Skipworth Belcher; and a nephew, James Leland Belcher.

Bonnie married the love of her life, Douglas Ray Lyon, in 1957. During Doug’s service in the U.S. Army, they spent two years living in Germany. In Henderson, Kentucky they built a life together, raised their two children, established a successful construction business, and faithfully served Christ. Their family and church family were among the greatest blessings of their lives.

Bonnie was deeply devoted to Doug and lovingly cared for him for many years after he was diagnosed with progressive early-onset dementia. During that same season of life, she also assumed the responsibility of caring for her aging mother. Though these years brought tremendous challenges. Bonnie met them with remarkable courage, quiet strength, and unwavering faith. She often smiled and said, “Well, we’ll just let the Good Lord take care of that.” Those words reflected the trust in God that sustained her throughout her life.

Bonnie had a genuine gift for connecting with people. She loved hearing their stories, learning about their lives, and sharing the hope she found in Jesus Christ. Even after moving to Mississippi, new friends quickly noticed her sincere curiosity, warm spirit, and the way she made everyone feel seen and valued. Whether visiting with a lifelong friend or someone she had just met, Bonnie had a way of making each person feel important.

Her life was marked not by ease, but by faithfulness. She loved God, cherished her family, welcomed others with warmth, found joy in everyday moments, and left those who knew her feeling encouraged and loved. Though she experienced profound heartache, it never defined her. Her enduring legacy is one of steadfast faith, compassionate love, and a life that pointed others to Christ. Her family is so thankful for the neighbors who checked in on Bonnie often and her church family that helped her over these last few years. Bonnie loved you all dearly.

She is survived by her daughter, Theresa Pringle(Phillip) of Madison, Mississippi; three grandchildren, Matthew Pringle (Lillian)of Nashville, Tennessee; Stephanie Pringle of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; Laura Lyon of Henderson, Kentucky; four great grandchildren- Holden, Austin, James, John Henry; and two nieces, Tonya and Tammy of Indiana.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at Lighthouse Baptist Church; Central City, Kentucky on August 15, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. and officiated by Pastor Mike Graber. Burial will be at Rosewood Methodist Church Cemetery, Rosewood, Kentucky.
