Hosea Hughes

Mr. Hosea Hughes was born on January 19, 1944, in Scott County, Mississippi, to the late Oregon Smith Hughes and Jack Hughes. He was raised in a loving, faith-filled home and attended Lone Pilgrim Elementary School. At an early age, he accepted Christ and joined the Church of God in Christ in Hillsboro, Mississippi. As a teenager, alongside his father, he united with Lone Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church, where his faith continued to grow.

A dedicated student, Hosea graduated as Valedictorian from North Scott High School in the Midway Community, demonstrating the discipline and determination that would characterize his life.

On February 29, 1964, he married the love of his life, Janie R. Lee Hughes. Together they built a loving family and were blessed with two children, Sheila R. Hughes and Bernard H. Hughes.

In 1966, Mr. Hughes relocated to Detroit, Michigan, where he began his career with Cadillac Motor Division of General Motors. Over the course of 30½ years, he built an exemplary career, serving 20 years as a Skilled Trades Supervisor. Beginning as an apprentice toolmaker, he attended Henry Ford Community College, earned his certification as a Journeyman Toolmaker, and was promoted to Skilled Trades Supervisor in 1975. His strong work ethic, leadership, and commitment to excellence earned him the respect of colleagues throughout his career.

Following his retirement in 1996, Mr. Hughes returned to his beloved home state of Mississippi and reunited with his church family at Lone Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church. There, he faithfully served the Lord and the congregation as a faithful Deacon and Trustee, always seeking ways to strengthen the church and encourage its youth.

Mr. Hughes believed wholeheartedly in worshiping God with all his heart, mind, and soul, and in loving his neighbor as himself. His desire was to be a humble servant, assisting wherever he was needed and faithfully fulfilling his calling as a deacon. His life reflected unwavering faith, quiet strength, humility, and a heart devoted to God and others.

Mr. Hosea Hughes leaves behind a legacy of faith integrity, service, and love that will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know him. His memory will forever be cherished by his loving wife, Janie Hughes; children Bernard Hughes and Shelia Hughes; grandchildren, Justin Stringer, Janae Stringer, Ryan Williams, Chelcee Porter, and Aiden Hughes; great-grandchildren, Nevaeh Boyd and Anala Jade; a loving sister, Pearl Crook; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, church family, and friends. 

Hosea was preceded in death by his parents, Oregon Smith Hughes and Jack Hughes; sisters, Eva Miles and Shirley Ross Spivey (Joe Spivey).
