John Mun Jones, age 83, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, in Newton County, Mississippi.
John was born on February 22, 1942, to the late Viney McDaniel and Murphy Jones. He was baptized on February 14, 1981, and faithfully served Jehovah as one of His Witnesses, living his life guided by love, kindness, and devotion to his faith.
On August 10, 1996, John married the love of his life, Ocie Jones. He was a devoted and loving husband, and they shared 29 wonderful years of marriage together.
John never met a stranger. He was a hardworking man with a gentle spirit—giving, caring, kind, and always ready to lend a helping hand. He took great pride in caring for his family and was known as a skilled electrician and troubleshooter. John loved to laugh, encouraged everyone he met, and lived his life with quiet strength and integrity.
He enjoyed fishing, especially for catfish, loved his trucks, and was famously known as the best catfish cooker of all time. Though John had no biological children of his own, his heart was large enough to become “Dad” and “Paw Paw” to many, and he was a loving uncle and great-uncle to his family.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Viney McDaniel and Murphy Jones, Lida Wash; and his siblings, Pearlee Johnson, Rose Evans, Charles Jones, Larry Carl Jones, and B. Wesley Jones (Rosie Jones).
He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Ocie Jones; his children, Arthur (Latrice) Miller, Shelia Miller, and Marcus Miller; his sisters, Eunice (Rev. S. M.) Robinson of Newton, Mississippi, and Maggie Ickom, Mary (Will) Townsend, and Viney Lay, all of Lake, Mississippi, along with a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
John’s family takes comfort in the promise found at Revelation 21:4, which states:
*“And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore.
